Our Boston Escapades

Per typical Caroline and Lexa fashion, when it comes to trips, we have stories. And Boston was no exception. From touring Harvard’s campus to eating a $32 lobster roll, we did all of the Boston things and then some.

Ghost Tours and Tequila Shots

Our friend, Emma, had recently moved to the city, so we thought it’d be fun to meet up and do a touristy activity together. We booked the #1 ghost tour on Trip Advisor, knowing that this night trolley would be quirky and memorable. To prep for the grand tour, Emma and her friend Miriam met us at Lookout Rooftop & Bar. The view was absolutely gorgeous with the buildings and harbor lit up; it was definitely a standout view of the city. After a few drinks, our little group made the trek to the trolley meeting point. While waiting in line to board, we saw a little bar around the corner. Nothing amps up some ghost stories like a little tequila – so we ran to the bar, threw back a shot, and jumped on the trolley right before it took off.

The actual tour was a bit of a blur thanks to our good friend Tequila. . .  there were big cemeteries, costumed characters with scary face makeup, and tales of Boston’s dark history – like Jolly Jane, a serial killer nurse. But halfway through the tour, all we could think about was finding a bathroom. Curse alcohol and small bladders.

To end the night, we went to Boston’s Little Italy, the North End, in search of an underground bar below a cannoli shop. That’s not something you can do everyday. The bar was packed and we had to fight our way to the front for chocolate martinis – but they were damn good and worth it.

Navigating the subway was a real treat at night. There were some wrong stops along the way, but we all made it back in one piece.

Irish Dancing at The Black Rose

Thanks to a family recommendation, we knew this was the bar to visit. Sitting just minutes away from Quincy Market along a strip of dance clubs, this little Irish bar stood out from the start. It was by far the best live music venue we’d been to in months. The band was going crazy on the flute, people were all crammed together and cheering, and everyone was happy.

Strangers were dancing in circles attempting to Irish dance, which was extremely entertaining. The crowning moment was when the band played “I’m Shipping Up To Boston.” The entire pub shook as everyone was shouting the lyrics. It was pretty awesome.

Seeing a Psychic in Salem

During spooky season, we had to make a special day trip to Salem. Instead of doing research ahead, we decided to wing everything – which was not the smartest move. Just getting to the city was an adventure itself. The bus to Salem only ran at certain times at a special station, so our mapping and directional skills were really put to the test.

When we finally got there, the city was overflowing with kids in costumes, creatures, and all things witches – which made it the perfect place to see a psychic. Both of our experiences were very interesting . . . one of us was told to go on an ayahuasca retreat to find herself and the other was told to move to Colorado based on the vibration of the card.

Boston was full of ghosts, music, and fortune tellers – never a dull moment. Check out our Boston city guide for more of our favorite attractions.
